I'm Here!

As I right this we’re driving down a road in Mexico. It’s not as hot as I expected, however it is night. My flight was the last of four DTS people to fly into San Diego airport today. I was greeted by my two leaders- Jon Philippe (or something like that. He goes by JP or Jon I think) from Switzerland and Jamie from Kansas- as well as three other DTS students- Julie, Heidi, and Sjoerd (who’s name I still can’t say). Julie’s from northern California, Heidi’s from Canada, and Sjoerd is form the Netherlands I think. We went to In’n’Out Burgers before leaving California. We drove to Tijuana to pick up a girl named Marleen who is also from the Netherlands. She spent the last two months in Tijuana. Apparently we are only being joined by two more people. Our DTS originally had 20 students, but 13 dropped out. Now there are seven of us plus two leaders. Out of us, six are girls. Poor Sjoerd.

The drive from San Diego to Ensenada is supposed to take us an hour and a half, but I’ve heard that it can take up to two and half hours. It was clear the second we crossed the border into Mexico (besides going through the station or whatever). Everything was just immediately poorer and not as nice.

I’m already having some trouble understanding JP, Marleen, and Sjoerd. Especially when JP speaks to me in Spanish. Apparently he and Jamie have read all the information on us and in the information I said that I speak some Spanish. So he asked me a bunch of questions about how I learned and such in Spanish. He speaks as fast as a native speaker, but he has an accent. It’s soooo hard to understand. However his English is even harder, so I guess it’s better when he speaks in Spanish. He and Jamie seem really cool. We’ve been blasting Chris Tomlin, Steven Curtis Chapman, and Derek Webb the whole trip. They are really outgoing and friendly and seem like they genuinely care about us even though they just met us. I’m pretty excited.

Well I’m going to put my computer away before we crash and I break it! Driving here is ridiculous! Though not as bad as the DR, fortunately. I’ll add another update tomorrow. Apparently we’re just doing church, registration and relaxing then.

¡ Qué Dios les bendiga!

Ok So now we're actually here and I met one other girl. Her name is Jessica and she's also from Canada. She's super nice and we are getting along great! She speaks fluent spanish and told me that she was only gonna speak spanish with me and help me with it until its perfect! I took a top bunk on top of Jessie. Another girl named Ruth is coming around midnight. The rumor is we're going to Colombia for our outreach. Ok my thoughts and words are all scrambled so it's time for bed. It's only 8:44 here. Ugh. This is gonna take adjustment. Sorry I have no transitions or closing. I'm exhausted. Good night all.
